Znaczenie adhezji w rozwoju bakteremii Staphylococcus aureus

W trakcie najbliższego seminarium IM, 15.03.2021 r., mgr Kacper Karczmarzyk z Zakładu Genetyki Bakterii wygłosi prezentację pt. „The role of adhesion in the development of Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia complications”.

Staphylococcus aureus is an important human opportunistic pathogen and one of the key causes of bacteremia. S. aureus bacteremia may lead to development of complications, including life-threatening infective endocarditis.

The ability of S. aureus to adhere to host ligands plays a big role in development of SAB complications. During my talk I will discuss the mechanisms of S. aureus adhesion to host ligands, such as plasma glycoproteins, and their role in the development of bacteremia complication diseases. I will discuss how I intend to investigate the ability of isolates to adhere to human ligands, to identify the epidemiologically relevant polymorphisms within the adhesins and/or underlaying regulatory mechanisms that contribute to the development of bacteremia complications. This will be performed on a new collection of S. aureus bacteremia isolates with associated clinical manifestations data.
